As a professional quantity surveyor, we need to evaluate the price of materials. We can estimate the cost of materials through tender document. Then, we can give suggestions on procurement methods. We also need to re-evaluate the salary is being pay to the contractor to ensure the efficiency of work. We also provide suggestions on tendering, give contractual advice, and do valuation of construction work. Besides, a quantity surveyor needs to manage the cost relating to a construction project. This may include the new build, renovation and maintenance work. A document tender about the calculation of the material, costing and others made by quantity surveyor must be accurate and reliable according to the provision in Law Of Construction. QS should be make sure that the process of construction is continue if any situation is happen like the price of material increase during the period.
One of the responsible of Quantity surveyor is to monitoring the construction project. The QS usually reports to Project Manager which provides advice in the decision-making process throughout the management of a project from initial inception to final completion. The QS handles estimating and cost control, the tendering process and, after contract award, the commercial interface. The QS also manage and monitoring the resultant contract through monthly valuations, variations control, and assessment of claims. A management skill is needed by every leader to manage an event or project and the leader need to be responsible for all their action. In daily life, everyone of us also need to manage our life in order to be a successfull people. We have to responsible to ourselves even when we success or failure. Learning of the management skills are not a simple process and we need to learn it step by step in order to master it.
In the sense of leadership, a surveyor must lead to a job as possible. Leadership in terms of fairness should be applied within a surveyor. Honesty in their work will result in quality as well. Not only the surveyor, but every human act must be applied with a good nature for the welfare of mankind. Surveyor must also apply the value of leadership in disseminating the correct information and facts to the world. All the dreams might be the a game and it might be a challenge that encourage us to be better.
